OPTALERT Honored With Award for Breakthrough Application
InterSystems Corporation, a global provider of advanced database, integration and business intelligence technologies, today announced that Australia-based OPTALERT Pty Ltd has been recognized with an InterSystems Award for Breakthrough Applications. The international award program honors developers who create game-changing applications using InterSystems’ advanced technologies.
The Web-based OPTALERT system, which is used by many of the world’s largest mining and transport companies, is the only real-time safety system in the world that detects the early onset of drowsiness during a journey by accurately measuring a person’s level of alertness, quantifying to both driver and company their fatigue risk profile. Vehicle operators wear specialized OPTALERT driver glasses that measure the velocity of the wearer’s eyelid 500 times per second using tiny infrared emitters and receivers built into the frame of the glasses.
OPTALERT uses the InterSystems CACHÉ® high performance object database to store massive amounts of data used for company reporting, trend analysis, and to detect opportunities for improvements.
By using CACHÉ, OPTALERT was able to move to a SAAS business model and to provide an in-the-cloud service that can be tailored to meet the varying requirements of its mining and transport industry clients. “This application successfully addresses a serious problem that affects many people in industrial environments and along with increasing productivity and mitigating risk, it can contribute to saving lives,” said InterSystems Vice-President of Strategic Planning Paul Grabscheid. “We are pleased to present OPTALERT with an InterSystems Award for Breakthrough Applications.”
“We’re honored to be the first recipient of the InterSystems Award for Breakthrough Applications,” said OPTALERT Chief Executive Officer, John Prendergast. “It’s tremendously gratifying to be recognized for creating a game-changing solution. Journey management and control is becoming the norm amongst business leaders and they are turning to OPTALERT to enable them to quantify their fatigue risk profile.”
