MITS (r), provider of Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) business intelligence and operational reporting solutions, and Zumasys , a systems integrator specializing in multi-vendor technology solutions for small and medium businesses, today announced a new reseller agreement aimed at providing increased choice and business intelligence capabilities to the Zumasys customer base.

The MITS Discover OLAP Business Intelligence System already dominates the business intelligence space for the MultiValue database market. The company's newer product, MITS Report, enables enterprises using a wide range of technology platforms, including MultiValue and relational systems, to quickly launch complete operational reporting environments.

MITS products are a particularly good fit for Zumasys , which helps hundreds of companies with MultiValue-based systems, including more than 11,000 users of the D3 database, to extend the life and value of their systems. "Our strategy with these companies," explains Zumasys President Paul Giobbi, "is to help them rejuvenate their systems, wrapping them with newer infrastructure technologies-from wireless mobility with Citrix, to warehouse management, to virtualization, network security, and, especially now, reporting and analytics."

That strategy dovetails nicely with the MITS marketing philosophy. "Our value proposition is similar," explains MITS President Fred Owen. "When we face the multi-value space, we bring technology that can re-invigorate and extend the life and value of existing systems. That plays well for end users, resellers who may be embedding our solutions inside their applications, and integrators like Zumasys- all of whom are trying to make the most of these legacy systems."

Early indications are promising. "Our customers have consistently shown interest in data warehousing, reporting, imaging, and other ancillary solutions," reports Giobbi. "So this year we focused on these complementary technologies at our Annual Customer Solutions Conference-and the response to the MITS business intelligence and reporting solutions was tremendous."

Of the MultiValue database users attending the March "Zumapalooza" customer conference, many made serious inquiries about MITS solutions, some of which are likely to begin the purchase process in the next few weeks. "I think it's fair to say that we've just unleashed considerable pent-up demand," adds Giobbi. He also points out that, as the largest reseller of Raining Data's popular D3 MultiValue database, Zumasys will likely identify many more customers with reporting and analytics requirements well suited to MITS solutions.

The new relationship is expected to expand as new applications for MITS solutions reveal themselves. Both companies stress a consultative philosophy in serving their customers, and neither plans to pursue aggressive sales techniques. Once Zumasys consultants identify a need for operational reporting and/or advanced analytics, MITS consultants will become involved and work with the customer to define a specific solution.

"These companies have often made huge investments in their MultiValue systems," explains Giobbi. "Because we can surround them with newer technologies, our customers often begin to see their legacy systems as significantly more valuable than they had thought."

Owen echoes Giobbi's assessment. "What's interesting about this relationship is that both our companies are in the same, unique market position. Along with our capabilities on mainstream platforms, we both have deep expertise in the MultiValue world, and we're both committed to helping that surprisingly large market get the most from their investments by making those systems more accessible to today's users."
