Jeff and Peggy have decades of experience analyzing and tuning files; they remain convinced that file tuning is critical to maintaining system performance. The speakers will discuss the internal structure of UniVerse files and the relationships between file structure and system performance. The concepts of modulo, type, separation, overflow, and hashing (both static and dynamic) will be explained. This session will contain suggestions for more efficient file design and will present a file tuning methodology that is straightforward and easy to implement.
