D3 7.5.1 for the Linux Platform

Raining Data is pleased to announce the general availability of D3 Linux 7.5.1 , which is now fully certified to run on the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL5) platform. D3 Linux 7.5.1 also includes the long-awaited fix to using tandem on SMP systems as well as additional product fixes. This release is intended for the RHEL3 (update 8 and higher), RHEL4 (update 3) or RHEL5 platforms only. Customers running D3 Linux 7.4.2 or 7.5.0 can perform an update to D3 Linux 7.5.1 with data files in place.

Debugging Tools

  • The BASIC Debugger allows dynamic array and substring references and changes.
  • The ability to break into a phantom line while tandemed.

Flexibility

  • The logon process allows custom MD and MD password prompts.
  • The date format may be set locally for each PIB.

Maintenance Tools

  • Allows retrieval of the date and time a program was last run and how many
times a program has been run since the last recompile.
  • When a logon fails due to insufficient user licenses, the system logs an entry in
    the errors file.
  • SQL tables associated with an account can be automatically deleted with
    delete-account.
  • Allows users on remote machines using OSFI to be listed.
  • Automatic time adjustment when daylight savings time is properly configured on
    the host UNIX server.
  • Shortened restore time with a new option to suppress the generation of indexes.
  • Allows an ODBC connection timeout to be set.

Update Processor keyboard diagram now available in PDF!

Raining Data has recently received many requests for a copy of the popular Pick Update Processor keyboard diagram. As a result, they have created a downloadable PDF for your use. A major innovation of the Pick system , the Update Processor (UP) is a dictionary-driven, full-screen editor and a valuable tool for data processing and for coding and editing in TCL.

Originally offered in early versions of the Reference Manual, the Pick Keyboard diagram provided a convenient and quick-view guide for locating common UP commands. Raining Data hopes that you find the diagram a handy reference tool when using the Update Processor.

  Tech Tips!

D3 include the 'y' (Update Stamping) Processing Code

The y processing code stamps User and/or PIB and /or time/date update information into an internal item header from all processors. The functionality for quickly adding a processing code to a File Defining Item to capture 'last update' information has existed for quite some time on Unix. No programming is necessary. When implemented, the 'y' processing code captures the time/date, User and PIB, of the last update. This processing code is also very useful working with applications for SOX compliance. Before spending unnecessary time adding code to your application, review these helpful instructions .

This Tech Tip was found in Raining Data's Newsletter.
