Question to MultiValue Community

Question: We are a Unidata Site and want to install wireless scanners in our warehouse facility. If you are already doing this, please email me with your scanner manufacturer and model of your scanner. Details: We are looking for a wireless, handheld, barcode scan gun that generally would be reading a 13 digit UPC barcode (from our own shipping package). We need the device to communicate back to our UniData Database (either through a Unix-UniData 'get' and 'send' command or some other direct on-line, 2-way method). After receiving the barcode from the scanner device, we need to quickly send back a message (in some cases) to the originating scan gun. The device must then be able to display a message, or at least light up or beep to inform the user to stop the package. We will be placing these scanners at key departments in a vary large and loud warehouse facility. We need approximately 125+ scanners. Tom Edmunds tedmunds@starcalif.com 951-9432011,ext3420

InterSystems and SC Systems partner to deliver new development capabilities for MultiValue users with OSMOSIS SB-Converter

InterSystems Corporation and SC Systems Limited today announced the availability of the OSMOSiS Rapid Application Development (RAD) Tool on InterSystems Caché® high-performance object database. The OSMOSiS SB-Converter offers a smooth migration path and together with automated utilities enables users who developed systems in the IBM System Builder and SB+ RAD environments to easily move to the massively scalable, open standards-based Caché object database. By running OSMOSIS on InterSystems Caché SB+ users worldwide can now confidently capitalize on their existing investments in business critical applications and the many man hours taken to develop them. Features in OSMOSiS mean that all their existing SB+ trained staff can be transitioned with ease resulting in no loss of momentum to development plans. SB+ users are no longer sidelined or orphaned but have a clear path forward. InterSystems is a leading provider of innovative database and integration software. Its product line includes the InterSystems Caché high-performance object database, InterSystems Ensemble® rapid integration platform, and InterSystems HealthShare™ platform for national and regional electronic health records. SC Systems is an experienced and proven developer of RAD tools for the MultiValue market. The MultiValue market remains robust, with many business critical and highly functional applications playing vital roles for businesses around the world. "This offering enables all System Builder and SB+ users to leverage their existing core applications by evolving them to use the very latest technologies," says David Peters, Business Development Manager, SC Systems. OSMOSiS is a modern RAD tool that provides a fast development cycle for both character and graphical development, with numerous visual controls. It enables the delivery of highly functional applications that have a rich look-and-feel, easy data access, and interoperability with standard desktop applications such as Microsoft Office. David Peters adds, "exploiting the unique features of our product means that companies can take advantage of the high productivity gains of Caché with minimum disruption." Caché's MultiValue capabilities are not an add-on feature but are integrated through its core, as InterSystems take the needs of existing MultiValue users just as seriously as it does for those that are migrating to Caché from Oracle or Microsoft SQL-Server databases. "In partnering with SC Systems we are giving a clear message to the SB+ community to 'come and join us' and with OSMOSiS on Caché experience a future-proofed, highly scalable and extendable development and deployment platform for the future," says Graham Frost, Group MD of InterSystems UK Region.

When it comes to shutting down UNIX systems gracefully but without warning, it is nice to know which of the logged-in users have been inactive and for how long. All flavors of UNIX come with the 'who' command, most of which can tell you how long someone has been idle or inactive. The -u option typically reveals the inactivity timer, and the -H option displays an appropriate header for the display, as demonstrated below. AIX (Activity is a misnomer - it is the idle or Inactivity time) >who -uH Name Line & nbsp; Time Activity PID Hostname root pts/2 Jul 28 20:10 18:10 20202 (:0.0) userx pts/3 Aug 01 05:12 0:05 3544 (100.0.13.52) Solaris # who -uH NAME LINE TIME IDLE PID COMMENTS userx pts/17 Aug 1 06:31 0:04 8844 (192.168.150.209) usery pts/28 Aug 1 06:31 2:02 8847 (192.168.150.197) RedHat Linux #who -uH NAME LINE TIME IDLE PID COMMENT userx pts/0 Aug 1 11:12 0:02 23493 (169.248.229.217) Tech Tip found on Ashwood Computers website.
