QuadraMed to Offer Hospital Registration Application With InterSystems DeepSee Real-time Business Intelligence

InterSystems Corporation today announced that QuadraMed Corporation is adding InterSystems DeepSee ™ embedded real-time business intelligence (BI) software to a new hospital registration auditing and quality improvement application. The announcement was made in conjunction with today's DeepSee launch.

DeepSee is innovative technology that enables developers to enhance transactional applications so they can provide real-time BI to decision-makers. With DeepSee , application developers rapidly build interactive dashboards that are graphical displays of key performance indicators. Since these dashboards are embedded within applications, DeepSee makes it easy for users to access vital enterprise information.

In addition to DeepSee , InterSystems ' product line includes the InterSystems CACHÉ ® high-performance object database, InterSystems HealthShare™ platform for regional and national electronic health records, and InterSystems Ensemble® rapid integration platform. QuadraMed, based in Reston, Va., is a leader in developing information technology solutions that enable healthcare organizations to increase transparency, profitability, quality and safety in today's care delivery process.

Operational BI Enables Real-time Decisions

"With DeepSee , InterSystems is providing its application partners with a truly powerful technology that delivers competitive advantage," said Jim Klein, QuadraMed Senior Vice President and CTO. "We decided to be an early adopter of this technology so we can leverage it in our healthcare software products as soon as possible."

Enhancing QuadraMed's hospital revenue cycle solutions with real-time BI is a definite priority, according to Klein. "Patient registration is a complex process that involves a wide range of rules. For example hospitals file claims with multiple insurance organizations, including Medicare and Medicaid, based on information largely provided during registration," he explained. "Each of these insurance entities can have unique, specific requirements in terms of format, allowable values and consistency of patient data. Those requirements must be met in order for the hospital to receive timely payment and reduce denials for the healthcare services that are delivered."

QuadraMed became an early adopter of DeepSee in order to provide operational BI to the system's users. "We'd already decided to use InterSystems Ensemble to manage the application workflow and manage the rules governing data requirements," Klein said. "With DeepSee , we go a major step further by making it possible to monitor and report on the operational registration process in real time. Supported by workflow capabilities, key rules and metrics designed to help hospitals improve quality are monitored so cleaner claims are routinely produced. This allows hospitals to modify data on the front end so they don't have to fix it when the claim is denied."

DeepSee makes it possible to dynamically monitor data quality, throughput and backlog as well as to change data rules and work assignments in real time. Supervisors can also use the information provided by DeepSee 's business activity monitoring to identify personnel who are having problems in resolving data issues and to provide them with additional training.

"With DeepSee , you're looking at what's happening in your business while it's actually taking place and you can make the changes needed to improve the process," Klein said. "It's difficult to overstate the value of operational intelligence when making the right business changes," he concluded.

The enhanced QuadraMed healthcare software offering is slated for release in 2009.

"We're very pleased that DeepSee enables us to add another technology dimension to our long-term partnership with QuadraMed," said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. "Their rapid adoption of DeepSee enables them to lead the way in delivering the benefits of embedded real-time BI to their customers in the healthcare sector."
